Substitute School Nurse
CLASSIFICATION: Classified
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Missouri nursing license, CPR certification, AED certification, and First aid training
- RN license preferred but not required; LPN required
- Criminal justice fingerprint and background clearance
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate
REPORTS TO: Director of Health Education Services and building principal
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides the fullest possible educational opportunity for our students by minimizing absence due to illness and providing and delivering health services
PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must have experience working with school-age children
- Must be able to perform as an independent practitioner in an educational setting.
- Familiarity with diabetes, asthma, allergies, and anaphylaxis are essential to this position
- Must have the knowledge to support students with special needs
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills
- Must have strong interpersonal communication skills
- Must have the knowledge to work with children who have both chronic and episodic
illnesses
- Must have the ability to work as a member of a team
- Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from
administrators, staff, board members, and the general public
- Must have personal transportation available and must be able to support flexible hours as
needed
- Must have the ability and the desire to work with young people, their families, and a wide
range of constituencies
- Informs teachers of physical or health conditions which should impair the learning process
according to FERPA (Family Education Rights & Privacy Act), ANA (American Nursing
Association) and NASN (National Association of School Nurses) of nursing standards

SALARY & BENEFITS: Per salary schedule approved by the Board
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
