**Paraprofessional applicants are required to have completed at minimum 60 college hours and/or passed the Paraprofessional test in order to apply.  These transcripts or test results are required to be submitted with the application.  The Frontline Video Course or less than 60 college hours route are not acceptable for this instructional paraprofessional position.**

 

Per Board Policy GDBA: A maximum of ten years of related experience may be transferred from previous employment. The highest step a support staff employee may enter the district is at step 11 of the salary schedule.         

                                                         

 

Special Education Paraprofessional

 

CLASSIFICATION:  Classified

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of 60 college credit hours and Missouri substitute teaching certificate required
  2. Bachelor’s degree and appropriate Missouri teaching certification preferred, not required
  3. Criminal justice fingerprint and background clearance
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate

REPORTS TO:  Director of Special Education and Student Services

 

JOB GOAL: To assist and support a special education teacher and students.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

    1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of  

        materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.

    2. Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning

        materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their

        needs, interests, and abilities.

    3. Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup

        work as assigned by the certified staff.

    4. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any guest teacher assigned in

        the absence of the special education teacher.

    5. Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the

        certified staff.

    6. Alerts the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual

        student. 

    7. Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on

        field trips.

    8. When requested, serves as a resource person to the General Education Intervention

        Team and/ or IEP Team.

    9. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in

        school environment and community.

   10. Participates in in-service training programs as approved.

   11. Maintains safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in

        the performance of all school-related duties.

   12. Performs other such duties / assignments as directed by the certified staff.

   13. Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students

        with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP Team.

   14. Effectively collects and maintains evidence of yearly professional development hours.

   15. Works well as a team member to serve all constituencies.

   16. Adheres to and follows all deadlines and requirements as presented by administration

        /state/federal law.

   17. Attends all meetings as requested by building and district administration.

   18. Maintains strict confidentiality as required by law.

   19. Commits to life-long learning and growth.

   20. Performs any and all other related duties as assigned building and district

        administration.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   176 days. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
