Director of Activities and Athletics

 

CLASSIFICATION: Certified

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Missouri Teacher’s certificate and secondary Principal's certificate
2. At least 5 years of successful teaching and/or administrative and/or coaching experience
3. Successful experience working with school athletics and school district facilities
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

REPORTS TO: Building principal

 

JOB GOAL: To assist the HS principal in providing school-wide and district-wide leadership in the areas of supervision and
activities/athletics

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

1. Must have effective oral and written communication skills
2. Must have strong interpersonal communication skills
3. Must have ability to lead groups to consensus
4. Must be able to make effective presentations to the Board of Education, staff, parents, and community

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversees and supervises HS sports and extra-curricular activities.
2, Maintains appropriate personnel records for all school employees under his/her direct supervision.
3. Attends all conferences and workshops necessary to maintain and enhance knowledge in areas of general responsibility.
4. Attends board meetings and prepares such reports as the Superintendent or Board of Education may require.
5. Serves as a liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the schools as directed by the Superintendent.
6. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Board of Education.
7. Maintain confidential nature of all school related material.

 

PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ACTIVITIES:

1. Schedules and coordinates school calendar and district activity calendar.
2. Coordinates and supervises all extra-curricular activities, including evening and weekend activities.
3. Schedules and coordinates all extra-curricular activities
4. Requisitions supplies and equipment as it pertains to the activity director's position.
5. Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
6. Assists with the coordination of transportation, custodial, building/grounds, and other support services.
7. Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
8. Administers the student insurance program.
9. Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.
10. Supervises and evaluates coaches and departments as assigned by the principal.
11. Liaison for the school with other extra-curricular program's booster clubs.
12. Coordinates public relations information for all extra-curricular programs.
13. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Superintendent or principal may assign from time to time.
14. Ensures full compliance of all appropriate district personnel in regard to all rules and regulations of MSHSAA.
15. Serves as principal in the absence of the principal, associate principal and/or assistant principal.

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month position with applicable health and life insurance, annual vacation and paid leave
allowance provided. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.


PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
